Intersexuality: This term is used to refer to the existence of male and female
physical characteristics at the same time. A human being is intersexual if he
for example has testicles being a typically male associated feature and a
vagina being a typically female associated feature. There is a wide variety of
intersexual bodies. Intersexuality is not a disease
Hermaphrodite: This term is derived from Greek mythology and was used by
medical professionals to refer to intersexual persons in earlier times. Today this
term is obsolete. Some intersexual people use that term to refer to themselves.
Hybrid: This term refers to animals in modern literature having male and
female features at the same time as it occurs within snails and lobworms.
Referring to intersexual people by using that term is supposed to be
derogatory. Some intersexual people use that term to refer to themselves, but
in a provocative way.
